on the name

The name ever edge brings together two distinct qualities:
timelessness and noise.
Rather than choosing one over the other,
we begin by allowing both to coexist.
The tension between them becomes the starting point of our design.
ever and edge are not separate ideas.
When they overlap, they give a space its own distinctive character.

ever is the idea of designing with continuity in mind.

Working in Kyoto also means designing within layers of accumulated time and culture.
The passage of time, cultural context, changes in materials, and the memories left within a place.
We see spaces as things formed through the layering of these elements.
Rather than seeking novelty that fades quickly, we design structures that are renewed through use
and grow deeper with time.

edge means leaving room for noise.

Rather than making everything uniform, we leave a trace of noise somewhere within the space.
We draw from local contexts without translating them into something too clean.

We believe those subtle frictions create a sense of fluctuation in a space
and remain as memory over time.
